Freud would have a field-day with this!...

...forget the 'butterfly inkspots'!...

Yup, its winter....

The trees in our front garden.
Looking toward our neighbours in the east.

A gift from the snow plough, bless it!! Actually its gone down a little to what it was.

Not a pretty picture!

Even uglier - and the most worrisome. The temperature is supposed to go to 6celcius tomorrow morning, hmmm - should be interesting to say the least.

Christchurch update

Some of you may know that Carolyn Dore as was (Collingwood 53 - 56) lives in Christchurch - luckily she was away from home celebrating her 70th when the earthquake struck but her house is having to be totally demolished due to damage - she is living with her daughter for time being. At first she thought she had lost everything - but has managed to get a few possessions out but of course the building is in too dangerous a state to do much searching.

Railway strike in 1955

Help please Bloggers!
In May 1955 there was a Railway Strike but was there one in 1956?
My sister has sent me a foto marked Germany March 1956 but when I arrived back there was a strike on and we had to use Army trucks to get from Harwich to the Midlands.
I believe this was 1955, just want to confirm that "big" sister is wrong!
Have tried internet but get bogged down in American or Spanish history and very little from U.K.

Queens in Sydney

The Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth arrived in Sydney Harbour at dawn this morning - the QE on her maiden voyage. Everyone in the harbour area was awake - you can't sleep through some of the lowest notes on the planet when these horns sound off!

Hey up Alex!

WOW! What fun....

Watch what a group of engineers did, using fun to get people to use a
long staircase with a moving escalator right next to it... At first hardly
anyone took the stairs, almost 97% of the people took the escalator...

Notice how scientists changed how people reacted to climbing a long
staircase as first choice...66% more people took the stairs.

(My only question is: is that 66% more than the 3% who previously used the stairs - I.E. a total of 5% - or is it now 66% stairs and 34% escalator? Or, am I over-thinking this?) :-)

Pride comes before a fall.........

Four friends, who hadn't seen each other in 30 years, reunited
at a party...

After several drinks, one of the men had to use the rest room.

Those who remained talked about their kids.

The first guy said, 'My son is my pride and joy.
He started working at a successful company at the bottom of
the barrel.

He studied Economics and Business Administration and soon
began to climb the corporate ladder and now he's the
president of the company. He became so rich that he gave his
best friend a top of the line Mercedes for his birthday.'

The second guy said, 'Darn, that's terrific! My son is also my
pride and joy. He started working for a big airline, then went
to flight school to become a pilot.

Eventually he became a partner in the company, where he
owns the majority of its assets He's so rich that he gave his
best friend a brand new jet for his birthday.'

The third man said: 'Well, that's terrific! My son studied in the
best universities and became an engineer. Then he started his
own construction company and is now a multimillionaire...

He also gave away something very nice and expensive to his
best friend for his birthday: A 30,000 square foot mansion.'

The three friends congratulated each other just as the fourth returned
from the restroom and asked:
'What are all the congratulations for?'

One of the three said: 'We were talking about the pride we feel
for the successes of our sons...

What about your son?'

The fourth man replied: 'My son is gay and makes a living
dancing as a stripper at a nightclub.'

The three friends said: 'What a shame... What a
disappointment.'

The fourth man replied: 'No, I'm not ashamed. He's my son
and I love him.

And he hasn't done too bad either. His birthday was two weeks
ago, and he received a beautiful 30,000 square foot mansion, a brand
new jet and a top of the line Mercedes from his three boyfriends.'

Hello all you Bloggers, it is that time again and a kindly reminder that if you have any stories, memories and photos that you would like to share please send them in asap to me - editor of the NL, thanks.

Thank you Roger, great photos and I look forward to receiving the CD.

Another reminder that if you have a clear black and white or colour photo of yourself or you as part of a group during your school days at PRS we would love to blow it up (I can just hear all the comments as I write this) and use as part of the decoration around the hall during the reunion in Nottingham. It would be great if we could have a couple from each year... Your original will be returned (SAE) or if you could send me a scan attachment JPEG that is even better. Go on, have a rummage I bet there are some brilliant photos lurking in your albums.

Love reading all your blogs, don't get on this site as often as I would like, always something going on. Being retired is just so busy :)

My gast is absolutely flabbered!

The Jehovah's Witness

There was a knock on the door this morning, I opened it and there was a young bloke standing there who said:

"I'm a Jehovah's Witness".

I said "Come in and sit down, what do you want to talk about"?

He said, " F***ed if I know, I've never got this far before"

The power of negative thinking.....

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:
"Rome ? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty... You're crazy to go to Rome . So, how are you getting there?"
"We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome ?"
"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste."
"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."

A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome . "It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot..
And the hotel was great!
They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city.
They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican , a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.
Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me."

"Oh, really! What'd he say?"

"He said, 'Who f***ed up your hair?'"

Thats not a snow plow

I sold our blower to the railroad when we moved to a condo.

For Helga....

This is the way our driveway gets cleaned out, the snow wasnt going very far with the blower as it had rained and sleeted after we got the snow yesterday. The big plough had dumpled over 3ft in the end of the driveway, lovely man!! But this young fella did a great job - remembered a bit late that I had promised a picture of a snow blower for you Helga:))

Just for Diane

End of an enjoyable era. Midsomer is not a place to live though. That is if you want to stay alive. It has had more than its fair share of murders over the years and I guess in tonight's final appearance, Barnaby (JN) will be solving a few more!

Les Dawson

Tribute to Les at 7.30 pm tonight on ITV Just before Midsommer Murders and the exit of John Nettles. Did you know that Les died in 1983.

Queensland. Beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Well, that's what the TV advert says.
If you have the time, have a look at Australia on Google Earth. Go to "Layers" and under "Weather" tick the "Clouds" box. Have a look at the Category 5 cyclone hitting Queensland's coast.
So far Cyclone Yasi is looking bigger than any recorded cyclone in Oz, and it's coming ashore between Townsville and Cairns in an hour or two.
Queenslanders will be rolling their eyes wondering when it will all stop!

The Midas Touch I don't have...

The last two summers before coming to Canada I worked washing dishes in this 'Holiday' camp. I see it has done really well.. Lousy pay but incredible fringe benefits. "What's the similarity between Attila the Hun and a Lass from Lancashire?" One's a moor from the hills the others a @#%&@ from the mills" Cheers..
